9.4: Other Teas

Nettle

⁉️ Nettle leaf tea is a wonderful way to give your dog relief from the constant itch of dry skin or flea bites as it is a natural antihistamine and helps reduce Inflammation.

⁉️ Cooled nettle leaf tea can be used as a coat rinse for itchy skin.

It will help provide nourishment for the fur that will leave their coat healthier

Can help with anaemia especially for female dogs


How to make

  • Pick nettles (like pictured) any many as you want depending on batch size.

  • Place in large saucepan Cover with water (do not overfill)

  • Put pan on hob and bring to the boil, let simmer for 15 minutes.

  • Turn off the heat and let sit for 30 minutes.

  • Strain out the nettles to leave behind yummy nettle tea.

⚠️ This can be stored in the fridge for 7 days or frozen.


Feeding guidelines

Can be fed daily if needed, always start off small to test your dog tolerates it well.

Small dogs (Up to 10kg in weight) 1/2 teaspoon

Medium dogs (Up to 20kg in weight) 1 teaspoon

Large dogs (Up to 40kg in weight) 1-1.5 teaspoons

Giant dogs (Greater than 40kg in weight) 2 teaspoons


Dandelion

⁉️ Its bright yellow flowers provide:

🐾 Lecithin, High levels of polyphenols, Antioxidants.

⁉️ But its the leaves that are a powerhouse of nutrients.

🐾 Dandelion leaves are rich in: Vitamins A, C, K, D and B complex Zinc, iron, calcium, manganese Protein, double the amount spinach provides Phosphorus Potassium Many other trace minerals Antioxidants

⁉️ Dandelion is an excellent whole body tonic for your dog and you.

⁉️ It’s used to support the liver, kidney, heart and digestive tract.

⁉️ The flower has antioxidant properties and can improve the immune system and the lecithin in it helps support the gallbladder, liver and skin issues.


How to make

🐕 Use 5g to 30g dried herb (leaves, root or flowers) - can use fresh if you prefer

  • Place in saucepan & cover with water (do not overfill)

  • Put pan on hob and bring to the boil, let simmer for10- 15 minutes.

  • Turn off the heat and let sit for 30 minutes.

  • Strain & leave behind yummy tea.

⚠️ This can be stored in the fridge for 7 days or frozen.


Cleavers

Cleavers are rich in vitamin C and silica. They’re also rich in numerous fatty acids, flavonoids and tannins. This means that they are beneficial to the lymphatic system. They can clean out the lymph nodes of toxins as well as flushing out the urinary tract and kidneys. decrease congestion and reduce swelling


Feeding guidelines

Can be fed daily if needed, always start off small to test your dog tolerates it well.

Small dogs (Up to 10kg in weight) 1/2 teaspoon

Medium dogs (Up to 20kg in weight) 1 teaspoon

Large dogs (Up to 40kg in weight) 1-1.5 teaspoons

Giant dogs (Greater than 40kg in weight) 2 teaspoons


Infusion option method

Add a handful of washed (if necessary) freshly chopped cleavers herb to a clean jar or jug. Cover in fresh filtered water and leave for 8 – 12 hours. Strain and sweeten with honey to taste.


Hot method

The best way to make this tea is to infuse 1-3 teaspoons per cup of hot water, then steep for 5-15 minutes depending on taste.
